Ask me anything.

  • All types, so long as there is a full-time fundraiser with whom I actually work, or the intention to recruit one.

My experience as a fundraiser has been with large charities. However, as a consultant my work over the last 13 years has been with charities large and small and includes those starting fundraising for the first time.

I have found that in practice fundraising principles are transferable regardless of the size of organisation. Of course, the implementation will be different and budget and scale accounted for.

As for the causes, these are many and varied.

    Credentials

  • Typically, a one-off project will take between 3–6 days of my time, spread over as much time as is needed to complete the job. However, most of my clients engage me for one or more days a month, spread across the month entirely as you want, and totally flexibly.

  • Yes, of course. We can discuss how. I will have gained insight into you and your organisation. I’m more than happy for you to tap into that in whatever way suits you.

  • While it's understandable to have concerns about costs, hiring me should actually help increase and optimise your resources and generate a higher return on investment.

With my extensive experience and track record of success, I can provide strategic and practical guidance tailored to your organisation's needs, helping you maximise your fundraising efforts and achieve sustainable growth.

I offer value for money by helping you achieve tangible results, ultimately increasing your overall income from fundraising.

  • I understand that previous negative experiences can make you, or other stakeholders in your organisation, skeptical. My approach is rooted in a deep understanding of the fundraising landscape and a commitment to success. Unlike many consultants, my experience over decades has been actually working in charities, at the coalface. My track record as a fundraiser and client testimonials for my work as a consultant attest to my dedication and ability to deliver results.

In addition I will work closely with you to set goals, outcomes and success criteria for my work. I then monitor progress and make necessary adjustments to ensure that you get the results we have agreed.

  • I recognise that every organisation is unique and tailor my work to fit individual missions and target audiences. Through in-depth consultations and thorough research, I will gain a deep understanding of what it is that actually makes your organisation different.

I take pride in my ability to adapt and innovate, ensuring that my work aligns with your organisation's distinctive characteristics.

  • Collaboration with your internal team is crucial to the success of any work I might do.

As a consultant, I view myself as an extension of your team rather than a replacement, or somehow apart, or, even worse, above. I will work closely with your staff and volunteers, sharing information, and providing guidance and strategic and practical advice to enhance their skills and knowledge. By leveraging their expertise and combining it with my experience, we can create a powerful synergy that drives fundraising success. I value open communication and always try to foster a collaborative environment that ensures integration and empowers your team.

  • The timeline for seeing results can vary depending on several factors, including the current state of your fundraising programme, the strategies employed and the engagement of your donor base. Decades of experience have taught me that fundraising must be considered a long-term endeavour. There may well be some wins in the short-term. If so, I will help you identify them and help you realise them.

I will work closely with you to set realistic expectations and establish milestones to track progress along the way.

  • I can offer a comprehensive assessment process that evaluates your current fundraising, if any, the particular sources of money that are right for you, your internal resources and organisational readiness and commitment. Based on the results, I will provide strategic recommendations and guidance on how to start a successful fundraising operation.

Keep in mind that raising your hand and asking for help carries no embarrassment. And is often the first step on the journey to success. And I’m more than happy to chat informally about your current situation.

  • A supporter who has a good experience of giving to your cause will give more, give for longer and be more likely to leave a legacy. An existing donor is ten times more likely to give as a cold prospect. I will help you maximise the income from existing supporters and hopefully put to bed any ideas of donor fatigue.

That said, diversifying and optimising your income streams can indeed bring benefits. I will help you broaden your donor base, tap into new funding sources, and ensure ongoing support for your organisation's mission.

  • Absolutely. Donor retention is crucial for long-term fundraising success. Keeping an existing donor is far less expensive than recruiting a new one. This principle has underpinned my work for many decades.

By prioritising donor retention, I can help you maximise the lifetime value of your existing donors, and build a sustainable foundation for future fundraising efforts.
